The Weinachtsgurke, or Christmas Eve pickle, is a pickle-shaped glass ornament that is hidden among the decorations of a fir tree on Christmas Eve. The following morning, the first person to find it is given an additional gift, the privilege of opening their presents first, or some additional perk. It is also said that the pickle finder will have good luck for the year.
The Christmas Eve pickle has become a beloved German-American tradition—even making its way back to Germany in recent years. Whatever your holiday traditions are, the Christmas Eve pickle will surely become a near and dear tradition for you and your family!
